Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

I never thought I’d feel so sad at the death of someone I’ve never met.

But it’s comforting to see I’m not alone.

I can’t fully express why the passing of Steve Jobs has affected me so. If I had to approximate it, I’d say that Steve personally invested himself in his work more than anyone. And so many of us have been touched by and have had such a personal relationship with that work, in many forms, throughout our lives.

So much to learn from. So much to aspire to. Too soon.

I remember a story some Apple friends told me a few years back. It was a tradition at Apple for Steve to meet and take questions from the current group of interns. Someone asked:

“What one thing, other than Apple, are you most proud of in your life?”

His answer (paraphrased):

“The thing I’m most proud of, including Apple, is my family.”

My heart goes out to them, now.

Here’s to the crazy ones, Steve. You were a true inspiration, and you will be missed.
