Great Coffee Shops in Raleigh
Here are some of the great coffee shops I've discovered in Raleigh over the past year:
- Cafe Cyclo (Cameron Village / Downtown - map)
- The Helios Coffee Company (Downtown - map)
- The New World Coffee House (North Raleigh - map)
Each has free wireless internet, a cozy atmosphere, great music, and a cool clientele.
I don't inherently have anything against the Starbucks that one can find on every street corner. In college, I spent more time at the Starbucks located at the corner of Cedar and Fairmount than I did in class. That was in the olden times, prior to the rise of wireless Internet, however. Nowadays, the fact that coffee shop chains expect you to pay through the nose for wireless internet is enough to get them sacked. Not having to suddenly find myself surrounded by teenagers yapping on their cell phones is a nice added bonus.

Cup-a-Joe in Mission-Valley Shopping Center has free WiFi (G only). Their shop on Hlb Str. does not have wireless.

I feel pretty lucky to have found Cafe Cyclo and hung out there a few times during a recent visit to RTP. It was a nice antidote to the cubicle farms I was spending my days in.

you should try Royal Bean. It's on Hillsborough St (between ben and jerry's and playmakers) across from meredith. the coffee is excellent and the atmosphere is wonderful.

All of those coffee bars are nice looking, but when it comes to coffee quality they are very poor.
No quality, no consistency.
Cup A joe would be the only decent one mentioned.

The best place in Raleigh that I have found so far is Third Place Coffee house on Glenwood. The atmosphere is awesome and the coffee is superb. All the coffee there is from local business Larry's Beans so it is all fair trade, organic coffee. Definitely worth a try.

I would go to the Global Village near NCSU off of Hillsborough street. Great coffee, nice atmosphere...decent price and should I again say great, organic fair-trade coffee?

Cool. I did not know about the New World Coffee house having WiFi. Used to go there alot about 4 years ago when was working over that way. I always hit the Caribbou Coffee on Falls of the Neuse, but, then, that is on the way to work. And Panera Bread on Capital has lousy coffee. Though do have WiFi.
